Utility
The ARRA has allocated to the Department of Energy Smart Grid Investment Program $4.5 billion for helping utility companies transition to smart grid technologies with matching grants of up to 50 percent.
When utility companies make the transition to Smart Grid technology, one of the hardest challenges they will face is how to effectively monitor and manage the rapid growth in data from Smart Meters, Phasor Measurement Units, and energy security and control systems. Smart Grid technology involves smart monitoring and networking technology, and many utility networks are currently not experienced in deploying these data-intensive technologies.
Aviat Networks’ WiMAX and microwave transmission products offer the high performance, end-to-end, IP-based wireless solutions that utility companies need to meet the challenges of Smart Grid deployment.
By partnering with Aviat Networks through the GO-stimulus program, utility companies, distributors of electricity, and system operators can develop winning applications for Smart Grid funding.
Utilities are also encouraged to leverage other broadband-based programs in the ARRA such as building out ISP services to unserved and underserved communities so that their application can be more successful by addressing several requirements in one effort.
