Public safety
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act specifically states that broadband funding should be used to improve access to, and use of, broadband service for public safety organizations.
Interoperability between agencies, for voice communications and data record access, remains as important as ever for law enforcement and emergency services at city, local, state and federal levels. Wireless digital microwave networks, especially when deployed on a regional level, can significantly improve communications between emergency first responders. Because existing technology is used, these networks are very reliable and easily supportable.
Public safety agencies can partner with Aviat Networks through the GO-Stimulus program to write winning grant applications that can address the shortcomings of their existing, systems. Applicants that show improved interoperability through an IP-based broadband infrastructure will have better success in capturing stimulus funding.
