Middle mile
Did you know that the Broadband Improvement Project under the RUS has allocated $800 million in loans and grants towards build out of middle mile infrastructure for remote and unserved areas.
One of the key criteria towards winning this middle mile funding is a solution that is technically and financially feasible; sustainable and scalable and offers substantial benefits relative to cost. Timeliness is an important factor as providers are faced with two year substantial completion requirements and then a three year full completion requirement.
Aviat Networks’ microwave solution is ideal in the implementation of stimulus-related backhaul projects because:
- Microwave delivers fiber-like reliability at lower cost and deployment times. Fiber networks can range between $200,000 and $800,000 per mile and take six to nine months to deploy. A fixed wireless solution costs around $50,000 per link, delivers speeds of 100 Mbit/s and can be deployed in just a dew days.
- Microwave can operate in the access network to offer wide spectrum availability and extremely high capacity. Microwave can be leveraged in the access network to bring broadband connectivity to a number of public safety, education, utilities and other applications.
- Microwave is a proven technology with years of 99.999 percent availability running the most critical emergency voice and data services.
- Microwave is not subject to backhoe fades and other failure scenarios; wireless transport solutions often exhibit superior uptime when compared to fiber.
- Aviat Networks microwave radios offer a comprehensive wireless backhaul solution with scalable capacity migration to enable smooth network upgrades and expansion.
- Of a 45-year history designing, installing, integrating and implementing on-time, on-budget network and network management solutions.
