GO-Stimulus
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) has allocated $7.2 billion in grant and loan funding for broadband initiatives for rural, unserved, and underserved geographies. The Department of Energy’s Smart Grid Investment Grant Program (SGIG) has also appropriated $4.5 billion to fund the improvements towards the deployment of Smart Grid technology. This new Economic Stimulus Act was introduced in February 2009. By including broadband stimulus packages, this Act creates an opportunity to expand broadband services into rural communities that would otherwise be unserved. This means potentially hundreds of thousands of new jobs in the future.
